Sterile processing technician training is something you should consider if you are interested in a career path in the medical field. There are a lot of hospitals and departments in need of SPD techs, so you just work hard during your training and nail the interviews afterwards, you can be successful in this field.

Getting sterile processing department training is one thing, and looking for a job in this field is a totally different thing. For you stand a better chance of being hired, you need to demonstrate to the hiring managers that you are a great teammate. Some traveling SPE techs like to just work and keep to themselves, but the best travelers are the ones who get their contracts renewed repeatedly. As a traveling SPD tech, you need to really mesh yourself into the team and strengthen it through your positive attitude and vast experience.

It could be things as small as volunteering to go help if you see someone struggling or offering to help take a cart upstairs for the runner who looks stressed and flustered. You should offer to work overtime or grab an extra shift for someone who has a family emergency. These are the little things that make a worker “indispensable”, which means that a department can’t imagine how to function without you.

After getting that reputation in a department, you will be well on your way to not only a great traveling gig, but probably a bunch of renewed contracts. This is not only great for the facility, but also for you as the traveler to provide some level of stability. It also gives the highest possible recommendation on your resume, as hiring managers will specifically seek out traveling SPD techs who were renewed consistently at their previous positions.
