Getting a CBSPD certification can be very helpful if you work in the healthcare industry. The purpose of the CBSPD’s certification programs is to recognize individuals that meet measurable competency-based standards against which members of the profession can be measured. The CBSPD’s purpose is also to ensure safe and effective levels of practice to protect the public, to promote the education of healthcare sterile processing workers, to encourage continuing education for those working in healthcare sterile processing, and to maintain an accessible registry of certified personnel. It also helps in promoting professional accountability.

Upon successful completion of the examination, your certification will remain valid for a period of 5 years. You can get recertified by either reexamination or a combination of work experience and continuing education. The CEUs required for recertification is 100 for all certifications except management, which is 150 CEUs.

The CBSPD Board contracts with PSI Services Inc, which is responsible for providing all test administration services, including secure computerized exams, paper-pencil exams (for candidates that have special testing needs), test site selection, proctor selection, scoring of examinations and reporting of scores to the CBSPD.

The SPT certification is the only certification body that offers the three accredited certification programs, namely technician, flexible endoscope reprocessors, and management. The certification process begins with meeting one eligibility requirement and then registering. The registration process entails applying to take the exam and paying the exam fee. Applicants will then be sent instructions on selecting an exam date.

There are a wide variety of courses that can be taken listed on the CBSPD website, with widely varying prices. The CBSPD also maintains a listing of websites where certificants can use free, CBSPD approved in-services.
